Northern Lights at Durham Cathedral
We’re excited to announce that Northern Lights, the Durham University mixed A Cappella group of singers, will be joining us for a special fundraising concert on Saturday 6th June 2026. The group are current National Champions, seven- time National Champions and ….we’re very excited to announce …. this year Northern Lights represented the UK at the International A Cappella contest (ICCAs) and were placed second in the finals in New York. They also gained Outstanding Awards

Upcoming: Friends Festival Day 2026
Join us for the Friends Festival Day as we celebrate all the things Friends of Durham Cathedral. In the morning, members are invited to join us for our annual AGM in Chapter House. Festival Day events include Lunch, Organ Recital, Tours, Afternoon Refreshments and Festal Choral Evensong and Procession and concludes the service with the choir singing from the top of the tower! Scotland - we had a blast!
Day 1: We left Durham and headed north in the sunshine to Melrose Abbey, the beautiful monastic ruins where Robert the Bruce’s heart was buried. We had a fantastic tour around the Abbey, heard stories about the bell tower and ‘The Pig of Melrose’ before seeing the memorial stone where the heart was reburied in 1998. We re-boarded the coach and travelled a short distance to Abbotsford House (former residence of Sir Walter Scott). We enjoyed lunch together then wandered at our
